Am I seeing a Packard sedan from the early fifties ? Just a guess from the Cadillac guy.

Yes, looks to be from 1953 or so. I think the chrome on the rear fender makes it a 250 series.

I agree. 1951 and 1952 were almost identical, but this has to be a 51 because of the vertical positions of the wings of the hood ornament.

I think the bullet tail lights make it at least a 1953. Earlier versions were smaller. Comments??

Intersting bit of trivia: At this moment in the actual Starkweather spree (when he was caught), he really did steal a black Packard sedan, although it was newer (a 1957). He finally stopped when a pursuing officer shot out the rear window.

The earlier film adaptation, Badlands, had him stealing a black 1959 Cadillac two door before being apprehended.

Packard 400 Patrician Sedan 1951 ( 24 th series model 2406).Rear fender rocker panel design , three close round port holes on rear fender and Cormoran mascot are specific to the 1951 400 (4 bullet shaped portholes and flat mascot in 1952).

Your right pilou. I have a 51 300 and this is a 400 Patrician. The tail lights on the 300 and 400 were the same from 51 to 54, the 200 and 250 had smaller up and down tailights. The Comorant on this car was indeed specific to 1951. Also the 300 and 400 had a 3 piece back window, the 200 and 250 had a one piece. The 300 and 400 had a 127 inch wheel base, where the 200 had a 122 inch wheel base. Most of the 250's ( maybe all) were 2 doors. The 200 and 250 usually had the 288 inline 8 where the 300 and 400 had the 327.

This scene was the reenactment of the murders of wealthy industrialist; Chester Lauer Ward, his wife; Clara and their maid; Lillian Fencl who were stabbed and shot by Starkweather and Fugate at the Ward home in the wealthy section of Lincoln, Nebraska on the evening of 28th January 1958.

According to original case notes, after the murders of August Meyer, Meyer's dog, Robert Jensen and Carol King, Starkweather and Fugate took off in Jensen's car and drove to Lincoln; 17 miles north of Bennet.

After murdering Wards and Fencl, Starkweather and Fugate ransacked the house and took off from the scene in the Wards' Packard with jewellery stolen from the home.

After the murders, the Wards' friend and the Governor of Nebraska; Victor Anderson had contacted the Nebraska National Guard to assist the Lincoln Police Department in apprehending Starkweather and Fugate.

The Packard that Starkweather stole was a '56 Patrician, actually.
