1986-1990 by the mirror and windshield trim. Fitted with Corona wheels. 242 was discontinued in 1984 so it must be a 244 if it's a sedan. |

September of 1984 would most certainly be a 1985 MY by Volvo standards. I will leave this one for the resident expert atom. |

It has the 1986+ grille, hood and mirror. I had a look at the movie and it definitely also has the 1986+ air intake on the cowl, something you can't easily change. Something seems to be wrong with registration. |

Consider the year when this movie was filmed , and how car repairing market was here in TW in 80s and early 90s. There is a chance for this car to "changed" the shell(or at least part of it.) (Back in the days , when registration and examination are more easy to be cheated than today. Some people/shop would use a donor shell to fix a damaged car. And most of exterminator are not that familiar with EVERY small difference between each MY....which back than means easy pass(they can't tell the difference) , and for today means you could still be fined "illegally modification" even if your car are full factory stock spec.... There was once a case that made to the news about some person being fail at car examination , only because the wheel on the car are not the same spec as the one listed on the system.(That car model has few different grades , and he owns a higher trim model(with bigger rims) while the model car company sent to the MOTC for qualifications in the first place were the entry level trim(with smaller rims) |
