The lowest was the 'Basic'-Golf, sometimes called in Germany 'Basis' but official by VW just 'Der Golf'(so nothing for our extra info field). The lowest trim back then was the basic, followed by the Comfortline, Trendline, Highline and the highest was the GTI. Special editions came in beteween, depends on which trim they base. UK's and some other markets' trims had sometimes different names. Today Trendline is cheaper than Comfortline...
