Though the side trim seems to be lower than the moulding on the rear wings (as on th Mercury, but it will have got loose and lowered a bit), you can see that it wasn't touching the front wheel arch, originally. Also it was quite large, compared to the ones on the Mercury. The 1949 Sportsedan had different door handles though. I think the door handles shown here indicate the 1950 model (for sure they were used on the 1951 version).
