@dsl: This is for sure not a 300 SEL 6.3, partly because of the bigger amber front lights introduced, I believe, in 1968, partly because of the lack of rubber on the front bumper (introduced on the W 108 and W 109 on the 1965/1966 Model Year) and partly because of the much too tall radiator grille. Then if it's not a 300 SEL 6.3, what is it? This is very difficult to answer as it gives the impression of having a post 1968 grille (fewer 'squares' then previous models), but if so it's out of proportion, it has a front bumper in the style of Jaguar Mk2 which no Mercedes ever had, and no chrome strips between the hood and the front lights which should have been present if having been a W 111. Moreover it doesn't have the usual U.S. front lights but in the style of the Pininfarina 1971 300 SL Link to "drive-my.com" . What is for certain is that it has the smaller U.S. legislation amber front lights introduced in 1963 Link to "news.google.com" , but which was replaced in 1968 by bigger ones. The black paint cannot be usede for identification as that has been used by Mercedes since time memorial. My conclusion is, which I tried to write in my previous comment, that the cartonists usually have very little knowledge (not enough time for research) of a specific car before they draw it. That makes it almost impossible to identify the model they had in mind. Because of that I'd like the imcdb to concentrate on real world films, that is films that is not cartoons. I know there are exeptional exceptions, but the average cartoon is just not good enough. |
