1951 German Grand Prix, #78 = Paul Pietsch, works Alfa Romeo 159, retired. This was his only drive for Alfa, but he seems an interesting character, who founded the magazine "Das Auto" which became "Auto, Motor und Sport". And after the death of Karl Kling in 2003 until his own death in 2012 at age 100, Pietsch was the oldest surviving Formula One driver, and the last surviving driver of the pre-war Grand Prix era. Pietsch was also the first Grand Prix driver to reach the age of 100. |

Have done a quick tidy up to bring out all the late 1940s/early 1950s Alfa F1 cars I can find in our collection. So we now have a batch as model = 158 Alfetta and I expected to spot a batch which would similarly become 159 Alfetta. But this seems our only example, unless I've missed something in our batches of modern Alfettas and 159s. Or are there other names where they could be hidden?? |
