The vehicle details for HTM 10N are:

Date of First Registration 05 03 1975
Year of Manufacture 1975
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1256CC

Luton registration so possibly supplied by Vauxhall but its doubtful they could have known the condition car would be in at the end of the movie.

That's the main reason, it was a brand new car :) no problem on destroying a brand new car still in production :)

Is not was destroyed, looks the front end was dented and after some important parts and the wheels of the car was stolen, but still is a shame  with one on the most futuristics cars of UK in that time

Notice how in two pictures its shown with wing-mirrors and in the others without (before being damaged).

Two cars were used in filming as the spacing of the letters and numbers is different on the number-plates.

This week a colleague has told me, that he owned a Vauxhall Chevette in the 80ies (LHD for the German market). He said, that the technic wasn't identical with the Opel Kadett C. The engine was different, also the ancillary units. And it was made in inch-measures, not as the Kadett in metric measures.
This has caused problems, when he needed repairs and parts. The parts have to be ordered in Britain and the Opel-garagist got in trouble to find inch-tools. :D

HTM4N Was a Vauxhalls own press car - So this could have been Vauxhalls own car leant out for filming.

Hi Diesel. I used to own HTM4N, it was a rally car fitted with the 2.3 Single Cam engine. Bought it c.1984, sold it on c.1986. Do you have any more details?

A few early Chevettes in the press fleet had HTM*N registrations, so Vauxhall must have registered a lot at the same time.

A running gag in this film is that the wing mirrors are stolen off Bobs chevette every time he parks it when he visits terry on his rough estate, the chevette was actually never fitted with wing mirrors it had door mirrors you can see the screw holes in the door where they have been removed,
