This scene was a reenactment of the murder of Jimmie Lee Jackson, a young deacon and activist who was shot twice by Alabama State Trooper, James Bonard Fowler in the kitchen of Mack's Café at Marion, Alabama on night of the 18th February 1965.

Jackson's mother, Viola Jackson and grandfather, Cager Lee were present when Jackson was shot and were also beaten by the several Alabama State Troopers.

Jackson later stumbled from the café and collapsed in front of the local bus station, he later died in hospital on the 26th February 1965.

Jackson's killer, Fowler had later returned to service as a State Trooper.

The killing of Jimmie Jackson wasn't the only murder of a African-American man that Fowler had committed.

A year after killing Jackson, on the afternoon of 8th May 1966, Fowler shot and killed a African-American motorist, Nathan Johnston at the Alabaster Police Station in Alabaster, Alabama after Johnston (who had been arrested by Fowler for drink driving), had allegedly grabbed Fowler's nightstick.

Fowler was dismissed from the Alabama State Police on the 26th September 1968 after assaulting his supervisor, Sergeant T.B. Barden by grabbing and pushing Barden's head into the windshield of Barden's vehicle after Barden gave Fowler a poor evaluation.

After the dismissal, Fowler later enlisted in the US Army where he received a purple heart and two silver stars for his services in Vietnam.

In 1988, Fowler had testified against a US Army sergeant who hired him to kill a US Army captain and was later convicted in Thailand of drug smuggling and served five years in a Thai prison before being released and later returned to the US.

Fowler was later charged for Jackson's murder on the 10th May 2007 and later pled guilty to second degree manslaughter on the 15th November 2010 and was sentenced to six months imprisonment, he was later released on medical grounds after five months.

He later died of pancreatic cancer in Geneva County, Alabama on the 5th July 2015.
