Not called "Variant" in Australia: "In February 1974 assembly of first generation Passats replaced the air-cooled VW Type 3 on the Motor Producers Ltd production line at Clayton in Melbourne. Two- and four-door sedans and the station wagon were produced and were little different to their German counterparts, the main differences being in the Australian content such as paint, tyres, batteries, glass, etc. Also, the name Variant was never used for the station wagon."
