I think it is...according to the IMDB trivia, they destroyed the transmission of one when practicing a stunt.

It looks like CG. :??:

CarChasesFanatic ES

2007-10-08 16:42

Indeed in the trailer it seems CGI as well, actually the angle pans higher to a point where you only see the whole city from the sky, at the beginning of the sequence it might be a normal car but it later seems CGI, its more noticeable in the trailer.

I found an article from Ford Motor Company, about the Ford Shelby GT500 ...
Link to "www.ford.com"

The article also says there will be a Ford Escape Hybrid used in the film (!)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Escape shown will be one of the new ones the NYC cab company uses:

The article says that Smith shares some screen time with it (along with the Expedition EL and Ford Shelby GT500)
So I’m guessing he uses one at some point during the film?

This vehicle doesn't excite me whatsoever, now if they had a 1969 Shelby...

At least they added character to the 2007 Expedition by adding a winch, safari rack, and a million lights. I simply cannot feel passion for a vehicle that is as common as the Expedition, or the new Mustangs (even if it is the Shelby edition) which still has the ridiculous bulky new body. Which car would you rather have this Shelby in the picture below or the one in the movie? Which one would add more character to the film? Similar to The Mist using a 35-40 year old Toyota Land Cruiser instead of a brand new model (because it is unique and mysterious looking). Old cars rule...if you can keep them from falling apart!

surely it did, it might be from where he "steals" or "gets" the car from the dealership no?

Neptune US

2007-12-23 02:34

Only three stars? That’s all it qualifies for? Before the movie was released – with all the hype about the Shelby -
you would have thought that it was going to be used a lot. I’m surprised the Expedition was used more ...

While on that note – I have heard that lots of people thought the Expedition looked "badass" ...

Ford_Guy US

2007-12-23 02:55

It only came out at the beginning, for the scene in which Neville was chasing down the deer. And yes, the Expedition looked quite "badass." But once again, I'd rather not give too much away for those who haven't seen it yet (that means YOU Neptune  )

Wasserspeier wrote I asked some people who watched this movie. The crash scene is NOT in the movie. That means: They wrecked at least two cars for NOTHING. Now I know why Hollywood films are so expensive. Pure waste of money.

The opening scene with the Mustang can be seen here: I Am Legend Scene

I wasnt expecting it to be in the movie as it doesnt seem a crash filmed for it but a real crash that happened due to the speed the car had when it came out the (i suppose it was) dealership, so in any case i imagine that only the jump-through-window is what we actually see, anybody who has seen the movie will tell us, unfortunately i havent yet.

CarChasesFanatic ES

2007-12-27 01:30

Well now ive seen the movie i can proove nor the crash or the jump thorugh the window are shown in the movie, a shame, this car would probably deserve only 2 stars i think.

Ford_Guy US

2007-12-27 06:39

I think it deserves three. The main character did use it. It was the main focus of the first scene. It was used by the main character in a "chase" :D

Same problem as the Ford SUV, can’t really be a 2007, scenes were filmed in 2006.

I ran across this deleted Ford Dealership scene:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMKO4YWVZJM&feature=related

It appears Midtown Manhattan Ford was having a "Holiday Savings Event!" at about the time the viral outbreak
occurred ... You can also see the Expedition EL Limited parked over to the side (the Mustang almost hits it!)

The Shelby GT 500 was wearing a Midtown Manhattan Ford dealership plate that read "Manhattan Ford / www.ManhattanFord.com "
(this is seen at the beginning of the movie if you look close)

Am I the only one who noticed that the mustang has a perfect glossy finish while everything else in the city is covered in dust? Even if it was in a dealership or in a showroom, those places can still get dusty.

He could have washed it :p

Neptune US

2009-03-04 15:11

Actually (though I guess antp was being sarcastic ? :D ) he really could have washed it.

This would first prompt a question. Why would he wash it anyway, there is no one around alive, to appreciate a well polished automobile?

But then, think of relationships people develop with cars on a normal basis. Neville, starving for friends/family/someone to talk to, only had
his dog (and the mannequins) to develop a friendship with. Its not only possible, but most likely he would have a developed a friendship with
the car. What do most people do to things they care about? They take care of those things. So Neville would most likely wash/clean the car.

Of course, this would depend on the amount of elapsed time, how long Neville was around the car. If, as in the deleted scenes show, he had
just got the car from a dealership, he would not have had time to develop a relationship with it.

roostas towel US

2009-03-04 16:15

Why would he wash the Mustang but not his daily driver(the Expedition). You would think that he would have more of a relationship with his truck, or at least I would.

I said that partially seriously, as indeed he may want to wash the Mustang to have it nice and shiny, but not care about the Expedition.
On the other hand, it is also clear that for product placement the car had to appear nice.

Perhaps it's been asked before, but why are these listed as Ford Shelby and not Shelby?

CRAFT372 US

2009-10-07 16:33

Yeah i dont understand it eighter why he did not use it more in the film but i am not complaining that car looks like crap specely when you think about the older Ford Mustangs from the 1960s and 1970s butt back to my explanation what maybe this is some kind of reference to The Omega Man from 1971 witch this movie is actuly a remake of in that movie when the late Charlston Heston has a flat tyre in his stolen red 1970 Ford XL he just ditches the car and steals a light blue 1970 Ford Mustang and drives of and maybe Ford were in the Commercial hungry mood and used this awfulle looking so called new age muscle car in the movie but i gues that main reason that Robert Nevil did not use this car in the movie was becose it was not that good to move big equipment with he onely uses it to hunt fore dears 1980s style and i aldso wonder why they did not use a jump scene that i saw in making of the scenes where you can see the car being used to make 2 jumps the first one froke the front bumper butt the second was way better i dont under stand why we coud not see it in the movie maybe the director feared thet the jump had make the movie look to much like a dumb action movie and after watching it i think that it was a pretty good and dramatic movie with a pretty good story but what kinda ruins it is the awfule looks of the dark seakers they looklike somethings from Hell insted Vampire like creatures but the movie is still pretty good

Acording to one of the guys in the stunt video this is a 2008 Ford Mustang

CyrusRamsey97 CA

2020-02-26 12:19

Were any of the stunts with this car real (apart from the interior shots)? Looking at the scene in HD, all the shots of the car look like CGI, and it often seems rather poorly integrated with the rest of the scene. The way the car moves just looks "off". Compare it to something like the Need for Speed movie, which, for all its many flaws, has no CGI at all in the driving scenes - all the stunts are real, and you can tell (although the use of different prop cars is rather obvious in a few shots).
