Agree Cresta PC if Vauxhall, but not sure what other similar GM stuff was available in ZA - eg Holden, local Chevy?? |

It's definitely not a Holden. |

Ok - entered as Cresta. No reference to local build found. -- Last edit: 2017-12-14 15:07:46 |

When discussing engine sizes 'vauxpedianet' refers to GM South Africa assembling the Viscount PCE from CKD kits with the 5.2 litre Chrysler V8 engine its likely I think they also assembled the Cresta PC. http://vauxpedianet.uk2sitebuilder.com/vauxhall-pc-98000---cresta-viscount (see Model History - Model Year 1966) -- Last edit: 2017-12-13 17:35:38 |

At the end of that section it says ZA built the Cresta from April 66, adding the Viscount in September 66 (including their unique version with Chrysler 5.2 litre V8). Also some detail of NZ [PC] assembly from early 66 until 1971 of the Cresta Standard [PCS], along with imports from UK of Cresta Deluxe, estates, and Viscount. Plus a useful reminder that Switzerland made Crestas and Viscounts from April and July 1966. |

Some book info to supplement the Vauxpedia account. - the ZA V8 confirmed for both Cresta and Viscount - unclear if they did any normal 3.3 sixes. It was an imported unit (318 c.i/5.2 litre) used in the local Plymouth Valiant - NZ info as above - Swiss Crestas and Viscounts were 2.6 for tax reasons, but the Biel factory had a reputation for poor quality Vauxhall builds - Luton also produced 2.6 versions for export to tax restricted countries and/or markets with low quality petrol. None listed but likely Europe. Some low quality fuel markets received the 3.3 but with a 7.0:1 compression ratio. |
