Actually, the 309 was produced in India ( from CKD kits ) by PAL - Peugeot Ltd., a joint-venture between Peugeot and Premier Automobiles. It was launched there in 1995. |

I read somewhere that the Indian venture was extremely unsuccessful, because the 309 was expensive by Indian standards and it had very few dealers. |

Car was very gud...with great mileage, which us Indians consider a lot..but ppl also consider looks...so even by indian standards ...it was very dated....and to make the matter worst there were many options in that price range.. |
