They were originally made for the US Virgin Island with distinct special features, but the deal fell through and they were sold locally in Australia. The Californian name was re-introduced in 1977 when the marketing department needed to sell the cosmetic make over of the Moke that year. The correct design number is YDO30, not YDO018. this particular style of Moke is commonly referred to as the Export Moke, but it was originally marketed as a Californian and is also referred to as 'The Original Californian'.
