 This was the image that prompted an Italian collector to fly to Cuba, look for more 300 SLs, discover one and have his friend smuggle the pieces week after week to Italy until finally he had everything together and restored it - almost twenty years after the show was aired. If that's not a present-day Hemingway I don't know who is.

oh my.... i think besides that guy who got out of East Germany hidden inside an Isetta its the best car story i've ever heard ! :)

What isn't? Just the look, the engine, the top speed, the road holding, the steering wheel (tilting down to give access), the knee-high, foot-wide (no pun intended) sills, the doors....

Except this is a Roadster W198 II with a hardtop fitted so it has normal doors.
