Maybe a real Genex-car?

Possible. Filmed in 2012, but in East-Berlin, where it's rather likely, that such a GENEX-car -very valuable until 1990- will live longer than in West-Berlin or West Germany.

Is it visible, if it has mudflaps (mandatory in the DDR)?

Unfortunately the available views are too far or too close: but there is a very close sequence that could maybe tell us something more

@Ingo: do you mean there are other possible Genex-cars in this movie? I was thinking for example to the red VW Golf /vehicle_1064159-Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-17-1981.html (but it hasn't got mudflaps, anyway  )

Maybe - but a red fourdoor Golf I was popular in the West, too. No idea, if the whole colour range was available for GENEX-cars -the whole model-range definetely not-, but I cannot remember red GENEX-Gölfe. They were mostly white or dark blue.

I suspect that this is the "Berliner Strasse" set at Studio Babelsberg, but the set has been demolished and rebuilt as the "Metropolitan Backlot", so it would not be easy to prove now. :)

Anyway, Babelsberg is in Potsdam, so it could still be a GENEX car...

Definitely 'Berliner Strasse'. Same street corner here: /vehicle_231188.html

Well, only a few meters in the East :p
But it's indeed more likely, that more GENEX-Mazdas have survived than those, sold in the West.
