This was a 1991 9C1 model I think. Footage is from the 1994 Tyke elephant rampage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyke_(elephant) |

During the rampage, Tyke attacked her groomer, Dallas Beckwith, throwing him to the ground and critically injuring him, before knocking her trainer, Allen Campbell to ground, dragging and crushing him to death with her trunk, after attempting to save Beckwith. Tyke then attacked and nearly crushed publicist, Steve Hirano who was trying to stop Tyke from escaping the parking lot. After chasing Tyke for 30 minutes, officers from the Honolulu Police fired 86 shots at Tyke, killing her. Following the rampage, lawsuits against the City of Honolulu, the State of Hawaii, the circus and Tyke's owner, John Cuneo Jr. and his company, Hawthorn Corp were filed. Honolulu-based lawyer, William Sink filed a separate lawsuit against Cuneo on behalf a number of plaintiffs including a number of children who witnessed Tyke's killing and had suffered from psychological trauma as a result. The lawsuits were settled out of court and the details of the monetary decision were sealed from publication, in honor of Sink's involvement in the lawsuit, the animal rights group, Animal Rights Hawaii renamed the Order of Innocent Award as the "William Fenton Sink Award for Defense of Animals". -- Last edit: 2022-07-10 06:47:26 |
