Indeed, very interesting picture of Simca do Brazil Jangada 1963. It had the general shape of the french Marly, with specific rear wings of the Chambord that hadn't the Marly. |

Should that really be labelled as "Simca do Brazil"? I thought that we added the country flags to prevent that, as we do not have "VW do Brazil", etc. That name was used for the company, but not really for the car name I think. -- Last edit: 2007-05-08 14:22:42 |

Called Jangada 'cause in Portuguese means "zattera" PS That car belongs to a wide range developed just for Brazilian market(locally-made,not imported),based on Simca Vedette,but some with Brazilian names,like Tufaò,Jangada Rallye,etc....the whole range lasted thru 1959 to 1966 in Brazil,then was replaced by another car,based also on Simca Vedette but a restyled body next as style at Dart of Dodge(in fact,after be merged in 1968 by Chrysler,mute its name in Chrysler Do Brasil,and Simca name was dropped definitively on that market;since that period,the Make start to assembly early BR-made Dodge Dart,in 1969,until 1980,when its facilities were merged by VW do Brasil) -- Last edit: 2007-05-08 18:28:59 |

The Portuguese word 'jangada' means 'zattera' in Italian: 'raft' in English. But in Brasilian Portuguese it's also 'fishing-boat', acoording to my dictionary (and for those who'd like to know). |
