The first one seems to have the Austin "flying A" on top of the grille (1957+ Austin A135 Princess Mk IV), the second one hasn't (1959+ Vandenplas Princess 4 litre). |

For this type the name changed from Austin A135 Princess IV (1956-57) to Princess IV (1957-60) to Vanden Plas Princess 4-litre Limousine (1960-68). The first vehicle has the 'Flying A' on the hood, therefore it is an Austin A135 Princess IV (1956-57). The cut-away rear wheel spats and the narrow chrome-plated quaterlight pillar, which we see on the second vehicle, were introduced with the name change to Vanden Plas Princess 4-litre Limousine (1960-68). |

Alexander's dates and sequence is correct except A135 Princess IV was a different body from the 52+ 4-litre Limousine which became the VdP. The lead car is probably not an A135 MkIV (which had single pane windscreen) but an Austin Princess 4-litre Limousine. For reference, this is an A135 MkIV from Link to "www.justauto.com.au" . ![]() Note also this interesting Princess-without-Austin example - /vehicle_112918-Princess-IV-DS7-1957.html . A lot of normally accurate websites do not realise what the A135 Princess MkIV actually was - eg http://www.simoncars.co.uk/austin/sheerline.html , http://www.austinmemories.com/page8/page35/page35.html . -- Last edit: 2012-12-17 18:43:25 |

Update - this is the Sept 53+ slight facelift which had slight grille change - pointed and higher top, chrome outline inside the aperture (but still body colour surround) and doubled rear lights. |
