I saw the V, but thought the changeover within the VIN might have come a little later.

And here's a July 1997 that's at 125,000:

We had two model codes. Maybe the serial numbers correspond with those specific models. Possibly Toyota changed over the model earlier in the sequential for export markets but the US market didn't change over until later on? I cannot be certain.
