The base 730i (with the 188hp M30B30 inline 6) remained available all the way until the end of the series, and always kept the narrow-kidney grill to distinguish it from its V8-engined namesake. The plate need not to be fake - although it most probably is, as a check on the DVLA website yields no results for M670LUC.
