This generation of Voyagers was not built in Austria (according to Wikipedia) -- Last edit: 2011-09-28 02:44:52 |

No, that was 1987-1990. Voyagers were built in Austria starting in 1991. |

hmm you seem to be right, while Wikipedia says they were not, allpar says that Austrian production began in 1992. http://www.allpar.com/model/m/history.html Still since this bodystyle was built in both the US and Austria, I will leave the Made For blank. -- Last edit: 2011-09-28 07:14:14 |

German Wikipedia says built from '91 onwards for over 56 states in Graz/Austria. So it most likely built in A. Link to "de.wikipedia.org" |

Still, the taillights are quite different from the US-spec ones. This is enough to name it made for EU. Also, the stand-up hood ornament was replaced with a down-laid one to prevent the risks of injuries on pedestrians - but this is not visible in this very pic. |

I am sorry I mis-typed that, I meant to type i will leave the "Built in" empty. (I had already added the Made for EU tag) |

and most other sources (like this 1993 article from the NY Times)state that production began in late 1991 for the 1992 model year, and we all know how reliable wikipedia is. Furthermore Chrysler themselves state that production began for the 1992 model year. So the built in tag belongs blank. |

I've never seen an EU-spec Voyager with chromed doorhandles (which the US-spec 1991 Caravan/Voyager had). What you say about the Voyager entering production in 1992 makes quite a lot of sense, in that case. So we should list all EU-spec Voyagers listed as 1991 models as 1992s, built in Austria. |

^ You would know if that is the case better than I would, since Voyagers were exported to Europe starting in 1988 I just assumed than the 1991 models were done so as well, until production began in Austria , but that may not be the case. I guess it is perfectly plausible that the previous generation were exported to Europe (1988-1990) but that there were none of the new bodystyle (1991) exported in anticipation for the Austrian plant to build the 1992 models. EDIT: it seems after a quick look here on the site only 1 of these Chrysler Voyager/Grand has Chrome door handles (/vehicle_24653-Chrysler-Grand-Voyager-1991.html but I believe that this is a US Grand Caravan instead ) -- Last edit: 2011-09-28 14:16:16 |

Google image search for 1991 Chrysler Voyagers does come up with some 1991 EU-Spec Voyagers (complete with chrome handles) for sale in Europe, so I think that Voyagers were sold in Europe for 1991 and that they were imported from the US like the 88-90 versions. |

To be fair, many cars sometimes carry certain things from other models and previous models. In this case, the earliest models may just have chromed door handles from the Dodge models (since they are based on the same body style, but with different badges). Or the handles could be replacements. The particular van in Alarm fur Cobra was seen in a episode from 1999, so the handles could have been replaced between 1991 and 1999. So the models you looked at could just be some of the first models made in 1991. |

I don't understand what you mean by "may just have chromed door handles from the Dodge" The Dodge and Chrysler have the same handles at the same time (1991-chrome, 1992-black) There were no 1991 models built in Austria according to Chrysler and I have seen a lot of chrome door handle on the 1991's so i doubt they are all replacements.... Also as for the van in Alarm fur Cobra I don't think it is a Chrysler as it also doesn't have a repeater... The most logical conclusion would be that Chrysler exported 1988-1991 Voyagers to Europe and then 1992+ models were built in Austria and therefore the built in on these models should be left blank (unless we can see the handles or other clues that they are 1992+ models. -- Last edit: 2011-09-29 03:00:51 |

To be fair, the van is pretty far away. And in the rain. With a overcast sky. Anyway, I say leave this van alone and keep everything else the way it is since there is no clear cut answer out there. |
