Looks a bit like NYE 582 for both car and what can be seen of the plate "Queen Mary's 1935 Daimler 4095cc Limousine - one of two cars presented to Queen Mary and King George V in 1935, to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. The car was used by Queen Mary from 1935 to 1953. It was originally fitted with a 6.5 litre V12 engine, but this replaced by a smaller 4.0 litre 6 cylinder engine at the outbreak of World War II to save petrol during the war years." - http://nice-reg.co.uk/number-plates/NYE582.html |

I think this is the same car that was on the Queen Mary when I saw it in 1978. |

If so, it is NYE 582 "Daimler Double Six Limousine (1935) Registration Number NYE 582 Acquired by the National Motor Museum in the mid 1950s and given on loan to be displayed on the Queen Mary liner, moored in Long Beach, California. Exposure to the sun and salt took its toll and it returned to Britain in 1983 where it was renovated and purchased by Coventry Museum in 1984. The Double Six was built to special order, powered by a 6511cc V12 OHV engine (replaced in this case by a smaller 4.0 litre 6 cylinder engine at the outbreak of World War II to save petrol during the war years) with detachable head and 140bhp, but the car weighs around three tons." - from here Chassis 39700, originally registered XE 7432 (transferred from Queen Mary's earlier similar 1931 Double Six Hooper, chassis 32347, which was returned to Daimler in part exchange). George V's twin was chassis 39701. Apparently they were the largest private cars in the world at the time. |
