"Leyland entered the P76 in the 1974 World Cup Rally and it won the Targa Florio stage, finishing a creditable 13th overall. Leyland followed up with a limited edition model named after the Sicilian mountain stage featuring special Omega Navy paintwork with silver graphics, V8 engine, T-bar auto, special alloy wheels on radial tyres. Later a small number of Nutmeg and Aspen Green cars were produced, some with the stripe set “in the boot”. The Targa Florio’s interior came with parchment upholstery, a special steering wheel and radio with a power antenna and twin speakers, with air conditioning the only listed option. Production of the P76 ceased when Leyland closed the Zetland factory in October 1974, although CKD variants continued on in New Zealand for a couple more years.
