 This reminds me of a humorous story I read in a magazine:

In 1986, the GDR wanted to show how far they were ahead by presenting a "modern" firetruck based on a W50, built for the West. But Western critics just laughed: the outdated engine brought out only about 75 HP, the basket for the "swivel-ladder" only had space for one person (while in the West for a long time more than one person could already stand in there) and the ladder itself only extended to about three feet long. :lol:

So this "modern" firetruck wasn't put in production and they stayed with their existing IFAs and their Skoda-Liazes...
