When it was sold in the UK.... The raised area on the bonnet would make this '3000',(rather than the four cylinder version). |

According to my source, there were no 6 Cylinder version yet in 1969, the R was powered by a 1700cc, 2000cc or 2300cc, depending of the version ![]() |

The Capris MkI built at Halewood in the UK had British Ford engines based on those available at the time, in the same way the German cars used their own range of engines. Introduced in February 1969 the UK cars were 1.3, 1.6 and 2.0. Later (before July 1970) the 3.0 V6 was available in the UK with the power bulge in the bonnet as in the picture. From German brochures it appears to me that the 2.6 V6 engines, when they were introduced after about a year, had the power bulge but the 2.3 (108PS) engine which was also a V6 did not have it initially (or at all). The Capri was designed and prototyped in Essex UK. All the initial design work and the working prototypes were produced by a team of British engineers headed by the man responsible for the development of the Consul Capri, John Hitchman. -- Last edit: 2008-03-04 12:19:25 |
