@maxp:

When stating something here on the imcdb one should try to explain how that particular selection make sence. That is as onlookers, and even journalists from motoring magazines, tend to take what is written here as a fact. It isn't, just an ongoing project.

I agree this is a as you stated, but it's not just because of the chromed wheel embellishers, as wheels do get replaced frequently depending on the taste of the owners. That is what I believe many take as a focus point when concerning these cars.

Other things that can be noticed are:
- No side lights, hence should have been made before January 1st 1968. (Hence no 280 SE of any sort.)
- No chromed side strip, and no chrome on the wheel arches. (Hence no 300 SE of any sort.)
- The door mirror has a stright foot. That is a rare door mirror first available on the early W 108 and later replaced by a retracktable one introduced in 1968. Early W 111 usually had a "Swan neck" door mirror probably made by Albert. Hence pointing towards a 1966-67 model where the 250 SE is the only option whithout the side strip.

Using more than only one argument is important. I think this door mirror is protrouding forwards like an Albert "swan neck".[Image: 25cb94b3-7b06-4844-bc1e-1277120baa2a_zpsexjdvkx7.jpg]

I agree with 1966 also because the 14"wheels with separated hubcaps and rings were exclusive to 250 SE. (220 SE had 13" wheels with perfurated rings, and 280 SE kept the 14" wheels, but hubcaps and rings were a single piece.
