early [R107]. Maybe the MY can be narrowed down by the colour.

Somewhere between 1975 (rear antenna) and 1979 (batwing headrests).

@night_cub:
The car in question has an "H" (=Heritage) as registration suffix which is a recognition that it's as close to original as possible. Hence it's more than 30 years old.
However I pressume it would be impossible to demand that no optional extra would have been fitted from the year it went out from the production line.
It's differnt nowadays, but when a Mercedes used to be payed for, and it was payed for with a high cost, you payed for the level of engineering and craftmanship that meant it could be trusted as no other car alike. It wouldn't brake down.
But there were not more then the steering wheel, the doors and the air in the tires included in the list of standard fittings. Everything else had to be ordered as optional extra. And could have been done somewhere between new and the date of filming.

I don't understand how it can be possible to tell a MY because of the antenna.

Although there're some features that might be useful for model specification:
- There's no rear spoiler on the boot lid, which should exclude the 500 SL.
- There's no spoiler on the front end either, which should exclude the 450 SL.
After that, only two models remain, namely 280 SL and 350 SL, and they where originally only distinguished by the narrower tires fitted to 280 SL. But as also tires are easily replaceable that is no reliably feature.
The numbers produced say's 5/3 in favour to the 280 SL http://wiki.mercedes-benz-classic.com/index.php/Kategorie:R/C_107 , although if made between 1971 and mid 1974 it has to be a 350 SL.

I believe this is either a 280 SL or a 350 SL.

I paid for my Mercedes, and it was a lot of money, especially for an old retired man like me. So far, it has justified its high cost by being reliable and economical, but also quite comfortable and very fast on the open road. Is it better than the Audi it replaced? Not sure, I'll tell you when it reaches the age the Audi was when I changed.

* as we all know only the sixcyl (or 12 18 24 etc. ) has totally compensated mass forces by nature with vectors oriented 120° to each other just like Mercedes star

If so I agree with 1975+ Mercedes-Benz 280 SL, as the 280 SL was introduced with the MY 1975. Otherwise MY 1975 wouldn't had made any sence.

But six cylinder crankshafts suffer from torsional vibration and require a damper of some sort.

For US R107 SL models the antenna was mounted left side in ahead of the windshield through 1974. In 1975 the location was moved to the left rear panel. Not sure if the Euro model was different or not? Would expect the same. Plenty of examples of this '74 vs '75+ on the site.
