Everything from 1982-97 is listed on plate checking sites as Carbodies. On here it seems to be that 1982-84 is Carbodies and 1984+ is LTI. I have no view on what is correct as I don't really particularly know much on the subject. With peripheral projects such as the ex-Crayford Cortina Coupe conversion, now abandoned, Lockhart felt it was time for Carbodies to claim the FX4 as its own, and in truth, BL were all too happy to cut it loose. Carbodies acquired the intellectual property rights and having gained National Type Approval for the FX4, their SMMT classification was upgraded from “bodymaker” to “manufacturer”.
