Ford Cortina Mk2 with 1969+ grille. Now for a wild guess that this could be a Lotus - never sold in US as Mk2, but a metallic gold 1969+ Lotus was privately imported to US by (I think) Jamie Kitman who used to write for Car magazine in UK when Car used to be easily the best car mag in UK.

It could be another one formerly belonging to Mike Frankovitch Jr, who had the largest collection of British Fords in the US.

From distant memory, Kitman imported the car himself, but I've no idea whether it could have ended up with Frankovitch. Mk2 Cortinas in US were not sold in the same numbers as Mk1, particularly after about 68 when emissions and safety laws came in, so 69-70 my cars with the later grille trim would have been rare, and someone might just know what became of this particular Lotus and whether it might have been used here.

This series is filmed in New York, and Kitman is currently head of Automobile Magazine's New York bureau, so it's not outside the realm of possibility.

And if this is Kitman's Ford Lotus, there's a possibility that other cars of his may turn up in the series. As of his March, 2010, column his collection consisted of 22 cars: Link to "blogs.automobilemag.com"

"I still own the following:

1958 Lancia Aurelia B20S; 1959 Morris Minor quarter-ton pickup [ /vehicle.php?id=437795 maybe?]; 1962 MGA 1600 Mark 2 roadster; 1963 Jaguar Mark II 3.8; 1963 Ford Lotus Cortina Mark 1; 1963 Lancia Flavia PF coupe; 1965 Alfa Romeo Guilia Super; 1966 Lancia Fulvia coupe; 1966 MG 1100; 1966 Ford Cortina 1500 Deluxe Mark 1 wagon; 1967 Triumph TR4A IRS; 1967 Volvo 122S wagon; 1967 Volvo 210 wagon; 1968 Jaguar E-type Series 1.5 coupe; 1969 Ford Lotus Cortina Mark 2; 1970 Rover 3500S; 1971 Triumph 13/60 (Herald) wagon; 1973 BMW 2002tii; 1979 Triumph Dolomite Sprint; and 1980 Rover 3500. Kitman's Lotus at http://www.octanefilmcars.com/1969-ford-lotus-cortina-mark-ii.html . Matches for colour and extra front lights. Reported elsewhere to have originally been Colin Chapman's personal car.

Further info by email from organiser of a Lotus Cortina website: "Colin Chapman's Amber Gold Mk 2 Lotus Cortina, DEV565G ... given to Colin by Ford as a present for his continued support with the Lotus Cortina, the Twincam Escort and the Formula 1 efforts. Colin used it as his everyday car for a while, and then it just sat in the factory unloved, until the Chapman collection was put together. When the collection was sold, a guy in the USA bought it, and its lived in New York State ever since."

DEV 565G "Colin Chapman's car" has just been modelled by Vanguards (VA04119) and they've done it really well.
