Interesting photo. Thrupp & Maberley started coachbuilding in 1760s in London and eventually absorbed by Rootes in 1925, although did some special Rolls and Bentleys. They received all the special Rootes bodies in primer from Pressed Steel Fisher factory at Cowley (which before being absorbed into BMC in 1965 produced Rootes, BMC, Jaguar, Standard-Triumph, Rolls Royce and Volvo bodies). T&M did all paint, roof, and interior then sent them to Ryton factory (Coventry) for Rootes to add the oily bits, so these look in transit to Ryton. Rapier saloon on bottom right. @dsl: today, on the http://www.historicar.net/ - market I've seen something really rare and spectacular: two sales leaflets, one for the Hillman Minx and one for the Singer Vogue - in German!  They had the ß, the "sharp S", in the text, so it's not the Swiss version (where this letter is not used). Probably printed for Austria, as this ws an export market. Unfortunately there was no dealer's stamp on the back side or other evidences. They were printed in UK.I don't know, if you are collecting that stuff, so I haven't bought them. I beg your pardon, if this was the wrong decision, but the seller is a professional dealer, so to find on annother classic car event again. And I've spotted a sales brochure for the 1973 Triumph Stag, in German and with a dealer's stamp from Wiesbaden. To buy for confident 30 €. P.S. ingo - thanks for the alert and useful info - we had an Austrian Avenger a few weeks back, so I can believe the origin. Am not really a brochure collector now - I used to as a kid but lost the habit a good few years ago. Still got the collection buried in a cupboard somewhere .... |

A propos Rootes/Chrysler cars in German-speaking countries: I just found this in an episode of an old German children-television programme: If you switch to 12:23, you'll see something interesting. @cl82 - thanks for a visual feast. Odd that if the clip is from 1979, the Avengers are between Mar 73 when 2 door introduced but earlier than Oct 73 from grille badge shape. |

@cl82: is the "Pusteblume"-episode uploaded, too, where the theme is recycling and environment? There a dark green NSU Prinz 4 was put in the shredder. It was aired in Spring 1979 - I remember that, because I ran back and forth several times between the TV and the window in my room.  What do you think about the possibility, that this scene was a later mounted footage from somewhere else, like here for example: /vehicle.php?id=40485 ? If you have a closer look, you can see, that the Avengers are in an extra cut. |

Definitely. The Avengers look new (not used) and are dated to a 6 month window in 73; by 1979 Avengers had been facelifted as Chryslers since Sept 76 - /vehicles.php?make=Chrysler&model=Avenger&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on . The other unusual feature is the Italian-like wing indicators - not sure if they were sold in Italy, but probably also used for some Scandinavian markets and apparently Austria /vehicle_103379-Sunbeam-Avenger-1970.html . |

On Saturday a friend has mentioned a British eBayer. He recently had offered two cars at the same time: a K 70 and a ... Hillman.  The K 70-wreck was crushed, because no bids came for it. What happened with the Hillman (maybe a Hunter), I don't know. -- Last edit: 2011-10-24 21:52:56 |

@cl82: interesting, that these old episodes are now to find on Youtube. Some years ago, I wrote to the production company, about exactly this episode, but they answered, that the old "Pusteblume"-series wasn't recorded for their archive. |
