I believe so.

I'm thinking Buick Apollo given the location of the side molding: Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com"

I have to side with somename, you can see a hint of tailight to indicate 1973-74 Buick Apollo

Oh dear, I forgot all the Nova's corporate siblings. You're right, of course.

Doesn't that '78 T-Bird deserve a page?

It was too obstructed to be listed because the guys fighting were blocking it.

I still think that's a Nova, per the hubcaps, the script behind the front wheel and the fact that an Apollo would have the "gunport" trim in the front fender. Link to "www.oldcarbrochures.com"

Interesting Nova/Apollo debate.
Can anyone come up with a better photo?

(While I see no sign of side portholes, it does look like it has the wrapped taillamps of the Apollo.)

I think the "ventiports" just blend into the molding from this angle and quality of image; it was just a piece of trim maybe a 1/4 inch thick. But if it’s not an Apollo then it’s an Olds Ω as the molding on the Nova extended completely across the side.

The debate continues.
(Anyone want to try for Pontiac Ventura?)

Wasn't the Buick version the only one with a wrapped taillamp panel?

There's no closer shot of it, that's all you see.

It doesn't look like an Apollo, I think it's a Nova, probably a Nova Custom or a Ventura. The Apollo had large portholes on the front fenders and "Apollo" emblems on the "C" pillars. Omegas have their emblems located slightly lower on their front fenders and vertical side markers on the rear.

Fro Nova picture, see this link:

For Apollo, Ventura and Omega pics, see this link:

But what about those taillamps?
Don't they look wrapped to you?
(The Nova, Ventura and Omega did not have wrapped lamps per your link.)

I really think the side trim is too far away and indistinct to see any portholes that might be there since they were integral with the trim on these models.

We need a better quality picture to see what it is. I'm sure it's not an Apollo because it clearly lacks the 3 portholes (which are quite big on this model) and because there's a visible emblem on the front fender.
It's not an Omega because of the horizontal rear side markers. I can't see the taillights at all on this frame... Would need a better quality picture. or if a frame would show more of the rear bumper, there are also differences between some models.

I don't know if I would say the Apollo portholes are "quite big".
They are no wider than the side trim within which they are integral.

Note the portholes run in line with the side trim which is at the same level in both photos. Note also the wrapped taillamp lens which resembles the car in the photo above.
Even the wheel covers look similar.

From the picture you showed, I just noticed that Apollos don't have horizontal side markers either. And note the size and location of the rubber strip on their rear bumpers... So it can't be an Apollo.

Here's another picture.

Oh, I agree there are discrepancies. I just feel the subject car overall looks more like an Apollo than a Nove/Ventura/Omega.
We could also be dealing with an altered vehilcle.
We really need a better photo.

Being the first model from General Motors that really was basically the same car save for a few pieces of trim and the grill, the X-Bodies can be quite interchangeable. In that blow-up it appears the window divider in the back door is body colored, as far as I can tell that was always chrome from the factory; leading me to believe this is not a stock car.
Also if that's a side marker in front of the rear bumper shouldn't it be red?

Could be a Buick Apollo with Chevy Nova replacement parts.

I went back to this scene on the DVD, unfortunately the camera never pans a little more to the right to see the taillights better. So far, Police Academy has not been released yet on Blu ray, but if it ever comes out (probably will in the near future), somebody can replace it with a HD picture that could show the Buick better with clearer details.

It could but it would need to have it's rear bumper and rear quarter replaced (to fit the bumper with a higher rubber strip and the Nova/Ventura style side markers), the thinner side trim from a Nova and front fenders with emblems on them from another X body... And the hubcaps don't look like Buick hubcaps either...

As a Buick fan, I'd be pleased if more cars shown on this site would be Buicks (like pictures showing more than one car, including Buicks, that can't be found while searching the database because the frame was using to identify a car from another brand)

Like this Estate Wagon that doesn't have it's own page:
/i062239.jpg

Or the Regal on this page that is more visible than the car entered on the database...
/vehicle.php?id=58374

But when a car isn't a Buick, I'd rather see it identified as "unknown" if we couldn't tell more! from what I see, it's a Nova. It could be a Ventura but in no way it could be an Apollo or an Omega, unless it was heavily modified (which is unlikely!).
