The black/gold scheme suggests that this is a John Player Special (big-valve twin-cam engine + overdrive gear). |

There's a white one I see in Marysville CA all the time. Is this unusual looking car considered good by Lotus entusiasts? |

Probably the forgotten Lotus from the 60s-70s because it was not as pretty as the Elan and early versions only had Renault 16 engines and suspect roadholding. Continually developed and improved as Lotus learned how to engineer a mid-engined road car properly and fitted the Lotus twin cam, so by early 70s a much better car. Never sold as many as Lotus hoped. |

For me it was back then the only Lotus, I've known - due the purple-metallic Matchbox-toy When I saw a real Europa for the first time in reality, I was surprised, how small it is. Annother example, how unexact the Matchbox-sizes are. O.k., the others aren't much better: P.S: the Matchbox-Capri shall have a self-coloured vinyl-roof. @rljuna2: as a child I was fascinated by the French yellow front lamps, so I've drawed them on all of my toy-cars, except on that ones of the WIKING-collection. -- Last edit: 2010-11-07 14:17:34 |

I had the Matchbox Europa in blue - I could not persuade myself to buy a pink one. And I did the vinyl roof trick too - sometimes paint and then I discovered sticky insulating tape which had texture as well as the colour. I never used felt pens - the results always looked horrible. |

Yes, even in case of the water proof ones. They looked good at the beginning, but soon it was not very aesthetic, also could contaminating other parts of the body. Then it was not to clean even by the acetone of the sister's nail remover. |

Nice collection My Matchbox Lotus Europa was yellow |

It's not all, just a handful to show the bumpy size-relations. |

I had a metallic green Corgi version. |

To be pedantic this is a Lotus Europa Special - the John Player Special title was not used officially and is only relevant when a Special was ordered in black. Cararama do a budget toy Europa Special currently available in 1-43 and 1-72 in several colours including black, and all with the gold coachlining. Haven't got one, but it looks good onscreen eg ebay. |

There you go with your early interest with headlights |

I own a Lotus Europa Special like the one in the movie. It has a big valve dual over head cam engine with the 5 speed transmission. Great car, fun to drive. |

There was a limited run of numbered John Player Special cars -- the number quoted most often is 200. Each of these was fitted with a plaque on the dashboard that identifies its place in the series. (Some of the Specials have since been painted in the black/gold John Player livery, but those cars cannot be counted among the original numbered cars.) |

MMO597L is the user name of a bloke called Richard on this Elan forum. Maybe the owner?? |
◊ 2015-03-02 20:47 |
If he is, Swansea might want to have a word with him |
◊ 2015-03-02 22:22 |
Why not? There are even freaks, who use the VIN-number of their car as eBay-nick |

see here post#53 http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=870.45 And MMO597L is NOT a bloke called Richard on the linked Elan forum... it's a bloke called Ed. Further the DVLC UK never has had any issues with taxation of this vehicle - if the info came from the DVLA it is incorrect: It was for sure licenced in 1992.
