62imperial wrote They substituted a '46-48 Mercury convertible for the Lincoln in the crash scene - worth a separate listing? There's also a "making of" short film that aired on TCM that showed an alternate take of the crash that used a '46-48 Ford; is that on the DVD extras? (sad they wasted TWO other vintage convertibles to spare one Continental!)

winstonwolf33 wrote Here are thumbs showing the crash sequence. I added the Mercury to this movie page.

For several years (in the days before I had a DVD to review the scene), I thought they might have actually wrecked a Lincoln for the film.

Found the "making of" doc on YouTube; take 1 was definitely a '46 Ford:

Probably not used because the car started falling back on its wheels instead of going end-over-end like the Mercury.
