I think it is 1968 Saab Sonett V4 due it has federally mandate side marker. The 2 cycle version are extremely rare and virtually unknown. Only 28 prototype example were made in 1966. Only 230 2 cycle version were made in 1967 before introducing the V4 version in 1968. I have a copy of poster of all SAAB vehicles with chassis number listing up to 1980. Perhaps DAF555 may know better.

That seems correct, the side markers make it a 68 V4. And looking carefully on this blurred capture you might at least sense the bulge on the hood as well.
About the numbers made I don´t know for sure, I have a good reference book covering SAAB models up to 1976 and it states that 24 prototypes were built 1966. The production commenced late that year so my guess is that the last 4 belong to the series production of the cars, 1967 modelyear.
For 1967 calender year the total production of Sonett stop at 455 units, my source does not separate either models or modelyear so this sum would contain both 2-stroke cars and V4:s of 1967 and some 1968 V4.
2-stroke cars are indeed rare but I think most of the production went to the US as was intended.

On the Sonett II V4 the side marker lights were added for model year 69, so the car is not a 68.

This is accurate except for the V4 version being introduced in 68. The last 70 1967's were V-4 powered and had the same wooden dashboard as the two-stroke. They have a *combination* of two-stroke and later V-4 body and interior parts. I have seen only 3 of these.

Bruce Turk wrote I have seen only 3 of these.
