So we should list it as "American Austin" rather than just "Austin"?

I suggest rather Austin USA or Austin Roadster (USA)

If the make was called "American Austin" it is better to use that.
In the other case the "USA" name is not part of the make/model name.

In the American reference works they are simply listed as Austins .To differentiate it from the English cars best is Austin Roadster ( USA)1931

The American Austin was built under license in the USA (Butler, PA) from 1930 thru 1934. This is an AMERICAN AUSTIN roadster - 1930 (late) to about 1932. Production started in May 1930 with 3-window and 5-window coupes, the roadsters got into production in November or December 1930. American Austin Cars with horizontal louvers on the hood sides were produced thru 1932. 1933 brought vertical louvers. Coupe windshields got slanted for 1933, roadster windshields got about an inch taller. 1932 thru 1934 - the company was struggling with depression money woes. They built cars in batches, and were struggling with bankruptcy. Christmas 1934 - American Austin was done.
