You can import any car over twenty-five years old into the US regardless of whether it complies with US standards. So the producers could have bought a twenty-five years old (or older) Premier Padmini or Hindustani Ambassador, which could then stay in the US and be registered and driven without problems. If this scene was filmed in Canada it would be a bit easier, because the same rule applies for cars aged fifteen or over. |

The entire movie was filmed in Vancouver, so it's probably the producers not wanting to import a car from India for a scene that lasts only a minute. |
