nzcarnerd wrote It is a Chrysler product - possibly a 1930 Plymouth. Does the soldier move away from the car in the next few frames? Then we could see if the car has cowl lights.

sixcyl wrote I don't know :/
I just remember that the camera do a travelling from left to right, and that's the most important view of it ...

nzcarnerd wrote It is a 1930 Dodge DD, the first Dodge to use the Chrysler 4 bearing six. It is on the same 109"wb chassis as the Plymouth and DeSoto.

pilou wrote 1929-30 Plymouth 4-door sedan ( Model U. The Model U was produced in 1929 and as a carry-over untill april 1930 when it was replaced by the " New Finer" 30-U .Both the 1929 and 1930 model U's had cowl lights)

pilou wrote It is a 1929-1930 Plymouth model U :it has a curved upper line pattern of hood louvres. The 1930 Dodge DD New Sixhad a straight upper line pattern of hood louvres.Radiator cap is also Plymouth.

nzcarnerd wrote My 1929 Model U Plymouth doesn't have cowl lights and never has had them - it is an original, unrestored car - nor does any other 1929 Plymouth. The lack of cowl lights and circingle distinguishes the Plymouth from the other Chrysler products. It is also extremely rare to see a Plymouth with wire wheels and even more rare to see one with sidemounted spares. The car in this picture also does not have the ribbon radiator shell of the '29 Plymouth. The bumpers are wrong as well.

Unfortunately, tonight my computer is acting up and I can't open two pages at once to put in a link with a pic of DD Dodge. There is a pic of a blue DD tourer on the remarkablecars.com site.

According to The Standard Catalog of American Cars; - the DD was introduced in Jan 1930. 'Very early DD models had uniform size hood louvers and no cowl lamps. Later DDs also had vertical hood louvers but the louvers grew smaller in size toward the front and rear. This gave them an arch-like pattern. The later cars also had cowl lamps. Headlamps were finished in black with chrome plated rims.'

The car in this pic has had lights added to the front fenders and the headlamp shells plated.

The DD continued in production until May 1931. The first true new Dodge was the DH six in November 1930 - a longer car (114"wb) and with a bigger motor ( 211 c.i. vs 189 for the DD)

pilou wrote I have rechecked period factory pictures of the 1929 and 1930 Plymouth model U published in :Chrysler Chronicle by James M. Flammang Publications International Limited 7373 North Cicero Avenue Lincolnwood Illinois 60646 (1995 ISBN O-7853-0779-6 Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 94-69612) on page 35 ( for the 1929 model year)and on page 41 (for the 1930 model year). Both pictures show cowl lights on this model. However both cars have the sidemount equipment and this could indicate accessory equipment for the sidemounts and the cowl lights. The bumper shape also matches the one of the movie. There is also a picture of the 1930 Dodge DD on page 41 showing a different louvre design. So something must be wrong here and that will need further research .perhaps someone in the US Plymouth Club could help...

nzcarnerd wrote I will stick to my guns here - this isn't a Plymouth. Research may ultimately prove it to be a partsbin special.
