Wasn't there something about this truck that said it was acutally a GMC 6x6?, at least that's what I thought I read. The 6x6 was dressed up to look like a German Mercedes Benz truck. It's odd considering the number of German trucks that still exsist in Europe, I wonder why the dept didn't manage to aquire one?, besides, they did have an Opel Blitz in the town center, the one that Marion was supposedly put into?, the one that blew up, remember that one?

Wow... same question in this movie, re: the motorcycle. I stumbled my way to a cluster of sites by searching "Chang Jiang 750" after finding that in a discussion of the sidecar-bike Germany transferred to the USSR (during a short-lived, pre-WW2 treaty). That bike (the 1938 BMW R-71) was a 750cc Flathead. Some say it was used by the Wehrmacht--some say it was just a prototype. In that *general* era, both BMW and Zundapp were doing shaft-drive, 'boxer'-engined bikes, but I know little of the Zundapp. I've seen Zundapp 3-wheeled trucks in Mediterranean ports in the 70s and IIRC those were flatheads.

Looking at stills from 2 "Indiana-Jones" movies set in the latter 30s, I'm seeing very recent-looking BMW (or BMW-style) OHV engined bikes. Were there pre-WW2 OHV 'boxer' engines like these, or was someone in too big a hurry?

BTW--based on my viewing of *lots* of pictures of the Chinese incarnation of the Soviet M-72 (a ruggedized BMW R-71), IMHO the sidecar-body *shape* is right for the period, in both movies. My issue is with those big honking OHV jugs. The older 750 Flathead was a more compact engine. Seen from the front, the military-model's exhaust pipes were a lot closer to vertical.
