Oh... It finally happened: 1957 Ford Fairlane Retractable Skyliner and 1955 Gaylord Gladiator have a baby! |

So what are we going to name it??? |

Is this prototype? |

I think it was called a Schimitar? Not sure about the spelling |

Before choosing the name, you have to know if it is a boy or a girl |

Yes, 1959 Scimitar Retractable Hardtop, designed by Brooks Stevens. It was built on a Chrysler chassis. |

Any link with the Reliant of the same model name? Or just a coincidence? |

I don’t know of any link that would connect them together. |

'Scimitar' is a curved, Oriental sword. This one looks as sharp as a sword, maybe the Reliant can be driven that sharp? -- Last edit: 2008-05-31 23:38:12 |

I think Reliant had a fit of naming cars after types of sword. Their first excursion into proper cars, as opposed to motorised roller skates, was called Sabre; they had developed the Sabra sports car for Israel and simply anglicised the name for the home market. |

Built in Germany for the 1959 Geneva Auto Show. Stevens also designed a wagon (Scimitar All-Purpose Sedan) and a four-door convertible (Scimitar Town Car Phaeton) for the event. |
