Oct 66+ Mk3 fold away hood. Made for J despite LHD - wing mirrors are much further forward than normal position.

Same one??

A Japanese Sprite, also in a 67 film.

There must have been a law for the mirrors so they had to do it presumably for all existing cars. Sending LHD British cars to Japan makes no sense.

Agree it doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what happened in many cases until late 60s
Sunbar wrote Did I read somewhere that LHD cars (particularly when expensive imports) are more fashionable in Japan even when RHD is available - as it looks more exclusive and says 'imported'?

We've got enough assorted examples - /vehicle_728918-Ford-Cortina-1965.html , /vehicle_376289-Ford-Zodiac-214E-1962.html , /vehicle_1466006-Jaguar-MkX-1962.html , /vehicle_1507669-Ford-Consul-Cortina-1963.html , /vehicle_1418599-Ford-Consul-Corsair-1964.html , /vehicle_189023-Morgan-Plus-4-1962.html - to pick a few out quickly.

The LHD desirability thing is well known but for cars coming from LHD countries not from all countries! (as antp noted under Sunbar's comment in that page). So a UK RHD car would be imported as RHD. Now I see lots of Fords there in your links, wouldn't it be possible these came from Germany? The Jaguar and Morgan might be some weird exception. I certainly have watched more than enough Japanese films to have noticed RHD Jaguars... but I'm not going to hunt for Jaguar imcdb pages.

Ford's European models were not yet unified in the 1960s. The Consul, Cortina and Zodiac were all British models which were not made in Germany.

One explanation I've read for LHD in Japan is to allow a chauffeur to hop out and open the door quickly. This would apply to luxury cars like the big Jaguar.

More weird exceptions for you:
