Chassis 119065 "I am looking for information on grandfather's Jensen FF, chassis number 119065, a 1968 MK1 FF finished in red and originally registered OEL 333G. My grandfather was the second owner, the first being Harry Hyams, the property magnate, and purchased the car in 1970 from Charles Follett of Mayfair when Hyams part exchanged for his second FF. My grandfather sold the car in 1973/74, after which it travelled to the USA, and then to Australia...." "... 065 was sold originally to Mrs K T Hyams, wife of Harry Hyams of Centrepoint fame in London. They were at Ramsbury, Wilts. but their address in 1969 was Mugswell, nr Chipstead, Surrey. The car was purchased 20 Oct 1968 from F. English Ltd, Bournemouth (via Folletts), about a month after it left the factory, and was registered as OEL 333G. ... It was sold to the USA in fine condition in 1974, purchased by O. Carey, President of the New York Dock Railway ... Carey still owned it in 1975, having had it completely restored, so he claimed, and it was said to be functioning perfectly." It went on to live in Alaska, then Nevada, and switched to Victoria in Australia in 1995. Was seen in poor condition in 1998 and the trail vanishes after a 1999 sale listing. |

I've just had an email out of the blue from the Vice-President of the Jensen Car Club of Australia who picked up on my comment above and reports that 119/065 survives and is being fully restored by a club member in Victoria, Australia. JCCA has about 240 members and about 600 Jensens are known there. One FF was sold new to Australia and survives, and 23 FFs are traceable as survivors there today. |
