According to me, they were always Ford Thames. According to the UK Ford, Ford were that famous that anyone could see it is a Ford, and hence it was unnessesary to write that name. Because of that all UK Ford at that time were marketed as their own. When looking on my 1960 Ford Zephyr one has to have a good eye before one sees the Ford mark. I cannot understand the special treatment of the Thames brand at all. |

In UK Thames was solid, and may have been recognised in other English-speaking and/or Commonwealth countries (eg Aus, NZ, Africa etc). But for eg Europe it would have meant nothing so very likely that Ford (or Ford Thames) was used, along with metric model names (eg 10cwt became 500Kg or whatever). We have some examples identified for 300E, 307E and 400E but my guess is there could be more among our flock. But in this case - set in Germany but using RHD Brits probably sourced through BFPO/BAOR or similar occupying military/civilian arrangements - it's probably a UK-spec Thames owned and badged for Brits who would take it home after their posting. 400Es were not sold in D because they had Taunus Transits or similar instead. |
