S Series Standard Steel Saloon.

The registration commenced in May 1964, but the vehicle is not a Series 3 design.

I can't really add anything solid to jfs analysis. The plate seems a fake, and it looks possibly LHD. I don't think it has spiders eye headlights, but they were only used on RHD S1. So this could be a LHD S1, RHD or LHD S2, or even a RHD S1 which has upgraded to the improved S2 lights (which jfs has said before was common owner modification).

Googling the plate shows it's a Detroit wedding car described as 1959 - https://detroitclassiccarrentals.com/gallery , https://jrc-oakland.smugmug.com/Oak-Park-HS-2018-prom/i-MrHghbC/A , https://image13.photobiz.com/9698/25_20190305131325_8467653_xlarge.jpg , Link to "static1.squarespace.com" ... so we should be safe as a normal RHD S2.

I am always reluctant in the extreme to make any solid identification of this range of cars. Headlights can be changed using one screwdriver in just moments of time, although I do accept that the Series I light is unlikely to be found on a Series II. Bumpers and overriders can be swapped very easily, and, as can be seen from the makers publications, were able to be specified from a choice of types when buying a new car anyway. Series II cars can be modified to look like Series III, but I am not sure if a Series I has been due to the height of the six cylinder engine, although twin headlight wings could be put on without lowering the bonnet, iirc there may be an example on the database.

As the films get newer, the cars get older and more likely to have been “rejuvenated”.

Another difficulty with this range of cars is that they are affected by chassis rust more than the earlier MkVI and variants so there may be more crossbreeding occurring as more years pass. The older cars suffer more from coachwork deterioration (tell me about it!) so tend to reappear as specials, often with V8s from rotten S Series cars fitted.
