Similar to a Chevelle in the original Knight Rider t.v. show. |

The year on this car should be changed to 1972, per the grille. |

It is 1971 version due to the indicator style. For the grille, like ingo says: it just take a moment to change. With 1970/72 Chevrolet Nova bumper style |

Ah! My French is rusty and I went by the grille. Didn't realize the car had been mongrelized. |

The front bumper and fenders are 1970-exclusive - another screen shot where the reverend has a flat tire will confirm that the Chevelle is a 1970 (the front headlight housings are 1971 (with the side marker trim) with a 1972 grille)... |

Replaced: And different model at the beginning: |

At the beginning seems like a '70 Chevelle to me? Maybe it's the same car before they switched the bits around? |

Now, I am getting dizzy with these interchangeable parts |

Dual headlights mean 1971 or 1972. |

Okay, watching this segment on YouTube just now while examining the vehicles closely, here's what I've come up with...there are at least four (or maybe five) different vehicles used: 1. The first car, which appears about six minutes into the segment. From the marker lights and rear bumper, it is unquestionably a 1970 model, with no mix and match components. It is medium tan, has cream-colored interior, and has no body side moldings. It has full wheel covers whitewall tires, and an odd-looking hole in the top of the passenger's side headrest. It is not seen after leaving the church. 2. The next vehicle, at about 7:20 into the segment, is the mix-and-match car. It has a '71-'72 rear bumper, '70 front bumper and fenders, '71 signal lights, and a '72 grille. This car appears a slightly lighter tan, has brown interior, and a misplaced side molding on the back left door. It has full wheel covers and whitewall tires like the first car. It appears to be in pretty bad shape compared to the other vehicles used, with visible dents, however it surprisingly doesn't seem to be the primary stunt car. It seems also to be the car used for nearly all interior shots. It reappears in at least one scene later in the chase (about 12 minutes in), where it runs off the road after being bumped on the driver's side by the truck, however when the truck actually bumps it, it's car #3. It appears again 15-minutes into the chase, after it comes to a stop and the driver gets out and the truck comes out the ground. 3. The third car is the one pictured in the main image in this thread, and first appears 9 minutes into the segment, when the truck first rams it and spins it out (after which it briefly turns back into car #2). After the front tire is changed and the truck gets after it again (11 minutes in), it's this car again. This one is a straight-up 1972 model, with no mix and match components, and is closer in specification (other than year) to car #1 - it's a shade of tan closer to car #1, has cream interior, and no body-side moldings. It has a missing left front wheel cover (due to the changed tire), which reappearss several times. The left rear tire is also a blackwall in some scenes. This car seems to be the main stunt car. 4. This one appears near the 15:30 mark, after the truck has driven out of the ground...the driver jumps back into it and starts to drive it off. This one appears to be pale yellow or off-white with a plain white-painted roof (yep, two-tone), has a cream-colored interior, full body-side moldings, and a big dent on the driver's door. The year of this car can't be told, since it's only seen in close-up shots of the side. The car that rolls over and blows up may be car #3, but it might be a 5th car, too - this one appears to be a '72, and its other specifications match car #3, but it has a different style of wheelcovers. Personally, I'd just list the car as a '72 and list the '70 from the beginning as a different car, but that's just me. -- Last edit: 2011-12-23 08:22:19 |
