It will be ARO. Here is picture of IMS-57 in exactly the same version: http://www.automobileromanesti.ro/Aro/IMS-57/ , but perhaps it was made also later on the later models. |

IMS should be the brand name, instead of ARO. It was the vehicle's make, not a series, and comes from Intreprinderea Metalurgică de Stat. Only from the M-461 they were called ARO. Also the model name should be listed with a dash my opinion, as M-59, like with the M-461s. http://www.arom461.ro/images/m59/fig59a.JPG |

I think there could be a dash in M-59 too. The badge of the M-461 is also without a dash ( http://www.arom461.ro/images/m461c/conecini3.jpg ) but it's still listed with it on this site, so although not a very important detail it would still have a logic in my opinon. Or maybe remove the dash from the M-461s, but I didn`t dare to say that... -- Last edit: 2012-02-23 21:35:51 |

But what about that book capture then? It`s called IMS there as the brand name. And in these pages of an M-59 manual it`s the same: http://s19.postimage.org/5ta20xtwz/nt2.jpg http://s19.postimage.org/getxcy08j/nt1.jpg |

In refference to discussion above - things with Dacia are more easy, because there was always the "Dacia" name. In this case letter "M" as brand would looks rather strange Anyway 1964-68 M-461 indeed needs to be renamed. On most materials linked above is written "Uzina Mecanica Muscel" and UMM is IMO the best "brand" in this case, especially that they use abbrevation "UMM" also here: http://www.arom461.ro/m461.html https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/ARO%201969.html Worth to note that in some foreign countries also name "Muscel" was commonly used, although rather unnoficially. -- Last edit: 2018-09-13 17:29:20 |
