It is not a convertible, it is a town car or limousine with a removable cover over the driving compartment. One for mrcadillac to give us a definitive answer on.

Had a look at '80 Years of Cadillac LaSalle'. Looks to be a 1939 Cadillac Series 75 Fleetwood Town Car Style 7553. One of 13 built.

There was no Series 60 Cadillac in 1939, only the 127"wb Sixty Special (note the designation) which was only available as a Fisher-bodied 4 door sedan with an option of a glass division introduced mid year. If this is a Sixty Special, which is possible as it doesn't have the chrome waistline moulding seen on the Series 75 models, then it must be a one-off custom. The only Cadillac factory town car was the Fleetwood Town Car in the 141"wb 75 Series. Side mounted spares were always an option.

Agree , I should have specified 1939 Cadillac Sixty Special Town Car.It is generally accepted that the first Town Cars based on the Sixty Special were produced by Fleetwood who took over from Fisher in 1940 on 1940 cars . 6 ( 6053 LB) were produced as leather-back Town Car and 9 ( 6053 MB) as metal- back Town Car in 1940.However I have read some sources pointing that a few Town Cars would already have been build in 1939 but without giving references. The site of the OWLS HEAD TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM GALLERY (www.ohtm.org/gallery/) shows a Sixty Special Town Car that indeed has a 1939 grille specifying that it is a 1939 car. So there remains a bit of a mystery here: could it really be a 1939 chassis , or a 1940 chassis still having the 1939 front clip , or a period or later modification on customer specification .

It is a 1939 Cadillac Sixty Special Town Car. In 1939 seven chassis go to other Coachbuilders. A few 1939 Town Car where build by Derham Body Co. in Rosemot (Pennsylvania). I have one of them in my Garage.
