 I guess they keep the name because it still appeals to that people without taste that like "simple" movies with crapy scripts, and the only thing they care about is laughing about the typical "easy joke...

Though sometimes, in my opinion, the fact of repeating the same name makes the first movies of that series look bad, like happend with for example Beethoven, the first ones were not bad, they were entertaining and fun, but the new ones simply sucked.

 WHY? Is it really necessary to make another one? The sad part is that a lot of people are gonna be stupid enough to buy this movie.

 This is the third of the Direct-To-Video (or DVD) American Pie sequels. Since it's DTV it doesn't bother me as much as if they tried to realise these theatrically, I never pay attention to DTV sequels of popular movies (American Pyscho 2, Cruel Intentions 2, Wild Things 2), for one thing they don't really resemble the originals except in name because they bring in all new characters (played by cheap D-list actors), so it in some cases it's not a continuation of the original story at all. It's all these remakes of classic movies and old TV shows that are more worrying.

Home Alone is the same case. The first and second were funny but I hated the third one.

I agree 100% the 1st Beethoven ruled, the 2nd was ok, and the 3rd was, well... descent, but everything after that just sucked ass.
