 The movie was filmed in Czechoslovakia, but the maker, the WDR from Köln brought two trucks loaded with Western car to the filming locations - that the West German audience isn't be irritated about the strange COMECON-vehicles.
No kidding, this is true. I remember an article about the making of in our TV-magazine

IIRC it was filmed around 1979. Which would better fit with the cars and the clothing style.
