 Ian Hunter's original version was better. But they didn't do videos in those days ... Ironic Ian Hunter fact - despite bucketloads of great songs and several hits as part of Mott The Hoople and then solo, he made most money from royalties when Barry Manilow covered one of his songs.

Interesting fact. The link to the Barry Manilow song is wrong I think but I guess you think of "Ships" - a wonderful song! Mott's biggest hit by the way was written and produced by David Bowie ("All the Young Dudes"). Another Ian Hunter fact: He wrote and recorded the original version of "Cleveland Rocks" - theme song for "The Drew Carey Show".

Thanks - corrected (Yes it was Ships). Cleveland Rocks was originally written as "England Rocks". My favourite Mott song and Ian Hunter solo song. If you're into Mott, the first few albums (before the Bowie-fuelled relaunch with Young Dudes) are excellent late 60s heavy rock - worth a whirl if you haven't explored their ancient stuff - example one and example two.

You might be able to guess that I've got a lot of Mott/Hunter records ....
