![]() 1976 courtroom drama set in 1930s Alabama, where nine black youths are accused of committing non-consensual acts against two white women. The jury gives a guilty verdict, but the Supreme Court rejected this verdict and the judicial system of Alabama is forced to redo the case. Based on a real-life court case that even the Communist Party of the United States got involved with! Four of the nine were acquitted, the rest received prison sentences. The oldest, Clarence Norris, "jumped parole" in 1946 and went into hiding. He was found in 1976 but was pardoned by then-Governor George Wallace. Norris later wrote a book about his experience and died in 1989 as the last surviving member of the Scottsboro Boys. All nine men were posthumously pardoned in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottsboro_Boys Set in 1931. Airdate: April 22nd, 1976 |
